It has come to my attention that self-care may not be attainable for every one or it may just not be the answer. For example, being a single mother, most days it is tough to just go out and get a manicure or go to a yoga class. You have to line up childcare (which may be impossible sometimes) and sometimes that falls through. So then the yoga class falls through. Or maybe your child gets sick. I know I would rather be taking care of my baby and getting all of the snuggles than going to a yoga class.
What if you focused on self-love first?

What is self love?
Self love is the unconditional feeling on love, appreciation and acceptance for yourself. It is your acts and choices that decide you’re well-being and happiness. Self-love is knowing your worth and value in life.
How is self-care different from self-love?
Self-care is how you take care of yourself (mentally, physically, emotionally). It is making yourself a priority and feeling nourished and balanced.
What are some ways that you can practise self-love?
- Find an affirmation that is really you and post it somewhere (the background of your phone, the bathroom mirror, the dashboard of your vehicle). Either say this affirmation out loud or silently to yourself each day. Smile! Start your day off positive.
- Stop comparing yourself to others (harder said than done). There is absolutely no one like you. You are special and bring so much purpose to this world. Do things your own way and don’t worry about what others think of you.
- Be patient. Take a few steps back and take a breath if needed (especially when parenting). Your kid will survive for a few long breaths.
- Eat and drink what you feel like and what will nourish your body. Now I am not saying eat McDonald’s everyday (well I guess you can if you want too), but don’t limit yourself. Life is too short.
Whatever happens, know that you’re
doing the best you can and you can
do even better tomorrow.
It’s okay to not have time to practice self-care. It’s okay to put others before yourself for a while. Give yourself a break! But please don’t forget about yourself, you are a human too! At least learn to love yourself and practise self-love.
