It’s almost March! Where has the beginning of 2019 gone? My son is currently eight months old, I have just over four months of maternity leave left, Valentines Day has passed and there are only 301 days until Christmas!
Did you happen to make any New Year’s resolutions a couple months back? Have you stuck to those resolutions? To be honest, I gave myself “goals” and haven’t really followed through on any of them. I wanted to be writing a blog post a week, participating in an online fitness program and eating better. I have the eating better part down (I lost 10 pounds in five days with just drinking water and not snacking!) but the beginning of 2019 has gotten the best of me with the rest.
Don’t feel bad if 2019 has gotten away from you as well! Did you know that of all the people that make New Year’s resolutions, only 25% of them are committed to them after 30 days? And that only 8% actually achieve their resolution or goal? It’s hard to stay committed when “life” happens or when you just want that day to yourself to spend in bed. I am going to share some tips and tricks that I am going to use to hopefully stick to my goals. They may help you too!
- Break down your resolutions into realistic steps and/or time frames. It is okay to spend half and hour or an hour on a goal every day. Whether this be reading, blogging, going for a walk or even just brushing your dog, it will eventually become part of your routine and it won’t feel like your setting aside an hour every day. Maybe at the end of each week, review your progress and just your time frame accordingly.
- Get enough sleep. By getting enough sleep, it will be easier to focus on the task that you have set out to do. This can be hard, especially if you have children. I am a true believer in sleep when your kids sleep (at least the first nap)!
- Find someone to keep you accountable. Find someone who you can openly share your goals with and talk about them. If you are having trouble reading, join a book club. If you are having trouble blogging, chat with other bloggers and share topics. Others will be in the same boat as you!
Even though it is almost March, you can “start over” with your 2019 goals. I hope that these three tips can help you achieve your resolution (I hope that they can help me as well!). Always remember that there will be set backs and unexpected events will come up. Don’t be too hard on yourself!
